NVIDIA renames ForceWare drivers

NVIDIA is going to rename its drivers again.

Four years ago the firm renamed its driver releases from "Detonator" to "ForceWare" and now they decided to change the name to "GeForce".

When you visit their driver download page you'll see the ForceWare moniker is gone, the driver is now called "GeForce Release 174".

9600GT drops in price

When the Geforce 9600GT launched the biggest problem we had with it was the price. The original €150+ price was simply too high as for additional 20 to €30 you could get yourself much faster 8800GT based card.

The cheapest 9600GT currently sells for €116 and at this price, it really makes sense to buy someone’s Geforce 9600GT based card. The average price for non overclocked card is around €130 and even more for an overclocked card.

The 8800GT currently costs €180 or more if you want an overclocked product and the difference of €50+ makes much more breathing space for mainstream 9600GT.

GT200-300 is taped out

Looks that GT200 is also going to be ready for late Q2 launch. We only have some limited data but the chip that we call GT200 is taped out and the prototypes of the card are already up and running.

The device is known as Nvidia GT200-300 and this naming scheme might implicate that this is something that we've seen listed as D10U-30.

We can only speculate is this a 55 or 65nm or if this card has one or two chips but we can confirm that this configuration has 1024MB of memory.

NVIDIA confirms GT-200 with 1 billion transistors

Jeff Brown stated openly and without asking to have been that the next architecture actually "GT-200". The GPU will consist of approximately one billion transistors, and it was "pure logic, no memory as CPUs," said Nvidia Manager. This enormous effort circuit coincides with previous rumors, according to which the GT-200 about 200 shader units. Previous G80 and G92 GPUs bring a maximum of 128 of the computing engines.

NVIDIA GPU physics engine up and running, almost

Santa Clara (CA) - Nvidia told analysts that that the conversion of Ageia's physics application interface to CUDA is almost complete. To demonstrate the technology's horsepower, Nvidia ran a particle demo similar to what have been showcased by Intel on Nehalem - at more than 10 times the speed.

We can't really recall how long and how often true physics capability has been promised by various parties over the past three, four years. But there are more signs that stunning physics visualization in fact is becoming a reality and it appears that Nvidia is taking the lead for now. With Ageia on board, the company has a key technology and Manju Hegde, co-founder and former CEO of Ageia, confirmed that the port of Ageia’s technology to Nvidia's CUDA is almost done.

Nvidia Readies Major Product Launch of Tegra.

Nvidia recently applied for “Tegra” trademark with the U.S. patent and trademark office, but did not disclose any details about the product. However, there are various signs which indicate that Tegra will be a major product for Nvidia, the company which is not known for registering multitude of trademarks that are not eventually used.

The description of Nvidia Tegra at the U.S. patent and trademark office is short “G & S: Integrated circuits” and does not provide any details about the forthcoming product. It is not clear whether Tegra is Nvidia’s and Via Technologies’ mobile computing platform, a new specialized platform like Tesla, a new name on the market of discrete graphics processing units (GPUs) or a completely new multimedia chip from the graphics giant.
