Při čtení jsem narazil na pro potenciální zájemce poněkud znepokojující pasáž v části "Autofocus". Nevím, co se děje, ale společně s aktuálními problémy 1D MkIII to vypadá na větší problém:

"Canon says that the various improvements make the EOS 40D's autofocus calculation speed 30 percent faster and more accurate than the EOS 30D, and better in low light. The 20D and 30D have what I consider to be the best low light AF system on the market for the price, focusing on a person lit only by a television screen, and it does seem that the 40D can best them in some situations.

However, there have been quite a few situations where the Canon 40D kept on seeking when the 20D just quickly found and locked focus, specifically when the 40D was in Multi-point AF mode. I've found a few situations where the Canon 40D just seeks and seeks, and never stops. Most cameras give up after a few seconds. This is the first autofocus SLR of any make that I've seen do this. You can turn Focus Seek off in the Custom Function menu, but that still doesn't stop the endless seeking. Oddly, this occurs more for me in vertical mode.

In horizontal mode, Dave had a heck of a time getting the Canon 40D's top center AF point to focus on Marti's hair during the indoor shots. Hair isn't the best place to focus, of course, but it works well enough when we do it with other cameras. In Dave's case, the camera said it was in focus, but it was either front- or back-focusing.

When shooting a soccer match in AI Servo mode recently, the Canon 40D had a hard time finding and keeping focus on my subject. It was usually okay if I could keep the player over the center point, but not always. It still randomly focused many yards behind a player for one frame, then snapped back to proper focus, then back out. Soccer is an extreme example -- and I am spoiled by shooting the 1D Mark II N, and even the 1D Mark III -- but the 20D does better than the 40D in these situations. I got better results shooting in AI Focus mode, which is probably more appropriate for a more random movement game like soccer."

Pro současné/budoucí majitele - dejte pozor na vodu, 40D je zřejmě (byť to podle obrázků konstrukce nevypadá) poměrně málo odolný proti dešti, vypadá to, že míň než předchůdci. Z popisu se zdá, že to může souviset i s novým velikým displejem ... (?) Třeba jen problém kusu, ale radši být asi opatrnější.

So I took my 40D out to shoot the Cal vs. USC game last night. Unfortunately, it was raining the whole time and would not let up. This was my first time shooting a football game, and my first time shooting extensively in the rain (which I did not expect to be so heavy as last night). So I managed to find a trash bag and covered my 70-200 f/2.8L IS along with most of the body. Because of the volume of rain, however, water still managed its way to the 40D. By the second quarter, the camera started to act on its own. Whenever I would turn it on, it would be shooting in burst mode (in manual) all on its own, without me touching it. No other buttons would respond unless I put it in one of the auto modes. So I dried it off, took out the battery, and replaced the CF. It started to work again until late in the third, when it started to do the same. From then on out, the problem came back and did not stop. At this point, I saw water vapor underneath the LCD covering, and the LCD itself bugging out (loss of sharpness, contrasted sections, darker screen). I currently have the camera in a box of rice to dry it up, w/o the card, battery, or lens (the lens was fine). Do you think there is any coming back from this?
Oh yeah, the pictures are still intact, thank goodness.

Koupil jsem ho pritelce, je s nim maximalne spokojena az na jednu vec - nedokaze zaostrit s pevnou 50kou (EF 50mm f/1,8 II) na nizkou clonu (1,8 napr.) a ani s makrem 100mm (EF 100mm f/2,8 ) pri pouzit konvertoru (nebo jak se nadava te veci, co prodluzuje ohnisko ). To ostreni s padesatkou se pry da vyresit sestelovanim v servisu, ale co s tim konvertorem nevim.

To porovnáváš 40D+objektiv+konvertor vs. 350D+objektiv+konvertor nebo 350D+objektiv? Nedokáže zaostřit=neostří vůbec či velice pomalu? Jukl bych do soupisu kompatibility konvertor-objektivy, třeba v tomto může být problém..

Nasadzujes to ako sa ma?

Tzn. telekonvertor na objektiv a to cele potom na fotak? (ono sa to nezda, ale niekedy opacny postup pri nasadzovani skratne kontakty a fotak potom neostri alebo huntuje - kvoli tomu maju napr. kenko kovertory priamo napisane v manuale, ze najprv na objektiv, potom na fotak).

Inak mam kenko 1.5x + 50/1.8 II a funguje to s 350D bez problemov (v ramci moznosti samozrejme).

- S tou 50kou ma problemy vic lidi, jak jsem nasel na internetu.

- S makrem 100/2,8 samotnym problem neni, pouze tehdy pokud pouzije ten konvertor. 350ka ostrila se 100+konvertorem OK. Myslim, ze nedokaze zaostrit vubec, cili takove "vrz-sem, vrz-tam" a nic.

- Rekl bych ze to nasazuje ve spravnem poradi, aspon doufam

EDIT: Tak to nasazuje presne obracene (1. fotak, 2. objektiv), ale stejne je fotak vypnuty, takze by urcite nemelo mit vliv ne?

Canony maju imho niektore kontakty aj vo vypnutom stave ked je v nich baterka pod prudom...

Ved vyskusaj a uvidis, aj tak to asi nepomoze...

jj, a dosiel na to Fox pred casom, ked mu nieco blblo ... ono obvykle staci RTFM
