D8E aka G92 is dual PCB card

Nvidia's next generation high end part will have two PCB cards. The card codenamed D8E or the one that we called G90 – G92 for months will be GX2 like.

We wrote about such a card back in March when our Cuda sources confirmed that Nvidia has such a design in plans.

Desktop 8 series Enthusiast is scheduled for first months of 2008 and will need a lot of power. It is a 65 part, or lets say it will have two chips each 65 nanometre with its own memory. This will bring back the Quad SLI concept in the game.

Kdyby nekdo nevedel, co znamena D8E, tak nV nedavno predstavila nova kodova oznaceni pro GPU. Prvni pismeno oznacuje pro jakou cast trhu je to GPU urcene, D znamena v tomhle pripade desktop, 8 znamena, ze patri do osmickove rady GeForce a E v tomhle pripade znamena enthusiasist.

Nvidia G92 is GeForce 8800 GT
9 palcov dlhá (nemá toľko náhodou aj RV670?), nejak sa to v mainstreame predlžuje. Cena za 256MB 199USD (nie je za toľko aj 8600GTS?). Škoda, že neuviedli viac, hlavne počet vypočetných jednotiek.

RV670:

16 TMUs = 13.6 G bilinear/s, 6.8 G trilinear/s

G80-GTS:

20 ROPs = 10 G pixels/s, 80 G Z/s

64 SP G92 needs to run its SPs at about 1.9GHz to retain the ALU:TEX ratio of 8800GTS (500v1200 upgraded to 800v1920).

NVIDIA 8800GT based on G92 core Early Specs

For those who are interested in G92 core, the first card will be the NV 8800GT card. This card will come with a core clk of 600MHz and memory will be at 1800MHz. The memory width is at 256 bits. There will be two models, one with 256M and another at 512M. It will replace the 8800GTS-320.

This model is to fit the gap in between the 8600GTS and 8800GTS. Thus the performance levels should be around there. It is said that it targets the RV670 and the performance of it should be slightly better than the RV670..

It is slated to launch on 12 November 2007.

G92/ D8M launches on the 29th

Nvidia nailed the decision to launch G92 aka D8M on the 29th of October, a whole two weeks before it was previously reported. The chips are ready, the boxes are in production and it will all be ready for the launch on one of the last days of October.

At this time there are no implications when will Nvidia launch D8V, aka G98, but it shouldn't be be that far away from this day. The high end comes next year as a dual card.

More three-way SLI info

We've got our hands on a page of a presentation about three-way SLI and it looks like it won't have as much to bring to the table as normal SLI does in terms of performance increase.

As we don't know which benchmark or how it's represented in the graph below, it's hard to draw any real conclusions apart from the fact that it'll be faster, which is a good thing.

It doesn't seem to add a full cards performance, but if you compare the size of the graphs you'll notice that the third card adds a bigger bit to the graph than a second card seem to do.
