G92 aims for November launch

A few sources have confirmed that Nvidia already sent out an invitation for November launch of G92, the next generation high end card.

The big thing about this chip is that it made it at 65 nanometre and that it has a support for PCIe 2.0 interface. Smaller gate size usually means higher clock and lower thermal dissipation and we are certain that this new chip will have significantly more transistors than G80.

As far as we know G92 is an evolution from G80 chip rather than a revolutionary new thing but will help Nvidia to steal the crown from its G80, Geforce 8 series.

At the same time Nvidia also plans to launch a new chipset and the hybrid SLI concept so this will be one nice and happy event.

GeForce 9800 will be as quiet as a mouse?

Ever since the GeForceFX debacle, Nvidia has been producing ever quieter graphics cards, and this GeForce "9800" (truth to be told, 8900 moniker might be more appropriate) is another improvement over previous generation product.

As it turns out, in preliminary audio tests, the new card is more silent than not just 8800Ultra, but it is also less noisy than 8800GTX. It turns out that we are slowly approaching the era of silent monsters - computers that will emit less noise that your typical 15.4-inch laptop.

G92 gunning for 800 MHz+ clock

We managed to learn that GPU clock has surpassed 800 MHz and that company plans to deliver the boards depending on yields they will get. So far, launch clock could be anywhere between 800 and 850 MHz, with 812/3, 824/5 and 830/5 being usual suspects. This time around, there is no hurry and Nvidia knows they can afford the launch of GTS/GTX and wait for R680 to show up and launch the Ultra version as a counter attack.

Nvidia's G98 is a mainstream chip

G98 is the new mainstream part with enhanced and more wide memory controller, going head to head with ATi's own RV670. G98 is all that G83 (8600) was supposed to be, but failed to deliver.

G92, Geforce 9800 samples in September

Nvidia is doing the final preparations in order to send the first samples of Geforce 9800 or something that we know as G92 to its high end partners and developers.

Very few priviledged people will get one that early and if all goes well there will be some G92 cards in some developers and customers PC already in September.

Nvidia is about to gether a lot of editors to tell them how good the new chips in October and the reviews and the real retail / etail launch is expected in November.

G92 might be called Geforce 8950

The commercial name of the upcoming G92 might be the Geforce 8950 and not 9800 as we reported before.

Different people were getting different names so at the end Nvidia can change it until it makes the boxes for the cards. As there is still some time the name can change but 8950 sounds like a good option. Traditionally there are two versions a faster GTX and slower GT but we are not sure about these differentiations.

G92 is DirectX 10.1 chip

G92 Nvidia’s next generation high end card will support DirectX 10.1. This new itteration of the API wont bring to much but Nvidia is there to supports the upcoming.



This will be a nice mark on the graphic card box but it wont bring anything at least not in 2007. The real DirectX 10 games have to be launched and 2008 is actually the year of DirectX 10 but this time is yet to come.

Nvidia partners to go Display Port in 2007

An industry source have confirmed that the current generation of Nvidia’s G8x cards can and will support Display Port.

Our sources believe that they will be able to launch a Display port version of Geforce 8x cards this year already.

The only thing that currently keeps Nvidia’s people to launch a Display port cards is that there is no a single monitor to support Display Port. As soon as the monitors comes out Nvidia and its partners will be ready to make and build them.
