MSI jumps the gun with 7900 GTO

It looks like Nvidia has good yields on that semiconductor. The 7900 GTO won't be an OEM/ODM card only - it will be sold through retail as well.
MSI already lists this card on preorders for €231

HD DVDs and Blu-ray both support three different codecs – H.264, VC-1 and MPEG2 HD. The movie studios make their choice of codec based on economic and time to market factors. The studios have been producing DVDs based on the MPEG2 format for years, so there is an entire authoring and duplication infrastructure in place that can turn out MPEG2 encoded high definition movies very quickly. MPEG2 HD movies take up a lot of space though and don’t leave much room on the disc for special features. VC-1 has a higher compression ratio than MPEG2 and has been an early favorite for U.S. movie releases. H.264 has an incredibly high signal to noise ratio (meaning great images) and provides excellent compression, but since it is a fairly new standard, the infrastructure to support it is still maturing. PureVideo HD provides hardware accelerated decoding for H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2 HD, MPEG2 SD and WMV.

There are no approximate thermal design power differences or power consumption differences noted by Nvidia, even though thinner fabrication process usually means a bit lower energy consumption. Additionally, thinner manufacturing processes allow developers to manufacture the chips in a more cost-efficient way, which may benefit end-users in terms of lower pricing.

- zprava o spotrebe 175W na kartu je mylna - bohuzel nebylo receno v jakem smeru, ale podle drivejsich zprav Ing je klidne mozne, ze je to i malo
- v prvni varce bude dostupnych asi 40k kusu
- G80 ma v 3DMarku dosahovat vykonu 2x7950GX2 a neni myslen vysledek v QuadSLI
No pokud bude mit R600 zpozdeni a vyjde o par mesicu pozdeji, tak bude mit ATI mozna slusny problem. Koluji totiz dalsi zvesti o G80 na 80nm, ktera by se mohla objevit kolem unora/brezna.

No predevsim podle rumours co sem cetl me G80 pomalu prestava zajimat, ale snad se myli. Ten navrh 20x20mm chip, ktery by mel byt rozdeleny na 48pipelines na DX9 a 48pipelines na DX10 s 384bit memory controlerem me celkem desiSnad je to jenom vymysl Inquireru...tentokrat v to opravdu doufam...

Tys mluvil o prvním 80nm GPU... me o podobě, v jaký je dostupný. Krom toho to jako zajíce v pytli nevidím - někteří výrobci používají jedno jádro, někteří druhé (např. všechny PC X1650PRO mají RV535)

Our friends have gotten some information of the upcoming NVIDIA G80 and it appears that G80 gonna be unified shader after all. It should be pretty close to the truth and it explained the mystery of the strange DRAM capacities that INQ reported previously. Expect G80 to be out somewhere in mid November along with Kentsfield.
