Foxconn shows off a Quad SLI setup using GeForce 7900GX2s

Yesterday we published details about the GeForce 7900GX2 Quad SLI video adaptors that showed up on a few German merchant websites. Today it seems as though benchmarks of the card are available (English translation).

Foxconn's Dual GeForce 7900GX2 1024MB adaptor sports a 500MHz core clock with 1.2GHz DDR3 memory support. These clocks are lower than the GeForce 7900GTX, which has a 650MHz core clock with 1.5GHz DDR3 memory. For those who are unaware, Foxconn is now a contender in on the video card market.

Like the GeForce 7800GTX Quad SLI adaptors, the 7900GX2 adaptors are really two 7900GTX adaptors with the PCIe lanes from one card physically routed via a bridge connector to the main card. A PCIe x48 bridge chip sits on both physical PCBs. 16 of those lanes are routed to the motherboard and the other 32 are spread between the GPUs.

The cards demonstrated by Foxconn were running 32xAA. The Quad SLI system consumes an incredible 650W during heavy operation. As we reported yesterday, each Quad SLI card is expected to retail over $1,000 and require an SLI x16 motherboard.

GeForce 7950GX2 - Name, price and launch date confirmed

GeForce 7950GX2 is the official name of NVIDIA's retail version of GeForce 7900GX2; the dual-GPU card that has been used by PC builders to create Quad SLI configurations. We've had this name confirmed by an anonymous source where the final launch date also has been revealed. NVIDIA has decided to launch its GeForce 7950GX2 cards on May 30 after having decided between a number of dates in May.

GeForce 7950 (Quad SLI) to support SLI Anti-Aliasing x32

We have learned that the Nvidia Corporation is planning to introduce a new Anti-Aliasing mode in the near future. The upcoming GeForce 7950 Quad SLI gaming monster is on the horizon. If you thought that Anti-Aliasing x8 or x16 is enough then we have a surprise for you. The GeForce 7950 Quad SLI will be capable of running your games at SLI Anti-Aliasing x32 (SLI32xS). Since the GeForce 7950 utilizes four GPUs in SLI then we can assume that you will be able to use this new mode and still have playable frame rates in games.

This feature is already available in ForceWare 84.43 but it’s limited to GeForce 7950 only. Although this is software based we predict that sooner or later someone will release registry hack/tweak information. This would allow you to use this feature with your current SLI rig. The GeForce 7950 Quad SLI is already intriguing and with this feature it will be even more interesting.
