GRAPHICS FIRM Nvidia has taped out chips which it will release later this year in a fresh assault to dominate the market.
This includes a new king of the hill as well, the almighty G92 - also known as the GeForce "9800". Nvidia is paying quite a lot of attention to thermals and performance of the chip in complex shaders.

A few sources have confirmed that Nvidia already sent out an invitation for November launch of G92, the next generation high end card.
The big thing about this chip is that it made it at 65 nanometre and that it has a support for PCIe 2.0 interface. Smaller gate size usually means higher clock and lower thermal dissipation and we are certain that this new chip will have significantly more transistors than G80.
As far as we know G92 is an evolution from G80 chip rather than a revolutionary new thing but will help Nvidia to steal the crown from its G80, Geforce 8 series.
At the same time Nvidia also plans to launch a new chipset and the hybrid SLI concept so this will be one nice and happy event.

So far, launch clock could be anywhere between 800 and 850 MHz, with 812/3, 824/5 and 830/5 being usual suspects. G92, Geforce 9800 samples in September

Nvidia is doing the final preparations in order to send the first samples of Geforce 9800 or something that we know as G92 to its high end partners and developers.
Very few priviledged people will get one that early and if all goes well there will be some G92 cards in some developers and customers PC already in September.
Nvidia is about to gether a lot of editors to tell them how good the new chips in October and the reviews and the real retail / etail launch is expected in November.
G92 might be called Geforce 8950

The commercial name of the upcoming G92 might be the Geforce 8950 and not 9800 as we reported before.
Different people were getting different names so at the end Nvidia can change it until it makes the boxes for the cards. As there is still some time the name can change but 8950 sounds like a good option. Traditionally there are two versions a faster GTX and slower GT but we are not sure about these differentiations.
G92 is DirectX 10.1 chip

G92 Nvidia’s next generation high end card will support DirectX 10.1. This new itteration of the API wont bring to much but Nvidia is there to supports the upcoming.
This will be a nice mark on the graphic card box but it wont bring anything at least not in 2007. The real DirectX 10 games have to be launched and 2008 is actually the year of DirectX 10 but this time is yet to come.

An industry source have confirmed that the current generation of Nvidia’s G8x cards can and will support Display Port.
Our sources believe that they will be able to launch a Display port version of Geforce 8x cards this year already.
The only thing that currently keeps Nvidia’s people to launch a Display port cards is that there is no a single monitor to support Display Port. As soon as the monitors comes out Nvidia and its partners will be ready to make and build them.

V pripade, ze bude lacna jej vyroba, vykon dostatocny pre vyssi mainstream, nizka spotreba a nasadia tomu dobru cenu, tak zisky budu viac nez dobre. (cisto hypoteticka uvaha) A hlavne si to mozu dovolit, kedze v highende uz takmer rok kraluje G80 a ATi sa nejak neponahla.Citace:

Nvidia is about to have its first working samples of the card that might end up be called Geforce 8700. The new mainstream chip should be the one we mentioned before codenamed D8M but it can be highly likely that Nvidia has another codename for it, something like G8x.
The new chip aims to be launched together with G92 in the Novemberish time and this will secure Nvidia’s performance leadership in this market segment.

G92 will have a 256-bit memory interface, will work at 740 MHz (core) and will have 64 Stream Processors. The G92 would have 512MB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 1800MHz and a TDP between the 7900GS and the 7900GTX (quite a large gap).
The card's price would be from $249 to $299 and it would score around 9700 points in 3DMark06 on a system powered by an Intel QX6700 (4 cores at 2.66 GHz).
As for the G98, it would have only 32 Stream processors (like the G84), a 256-bit memory interface, a core clock of 800 MHz, a TDP a little higher than the 8600GTS and a price tag hovering between $169 and $199, making it whether a replacement for the 8600GTS or the card to bring the price of the 8600GTS down close to the price of the Radeon HD 2600XT. This one would score about 7400 in 3DMark06 on the same, CPU-only configuration.

VR-Zone has learned more about the upcoming Nvidia G92 where the official marketing name is most likely to be GeForce 8700 GTS. As revealed earlier, G92 is 65nm based and has 256-bit memory bus width. The reference 8700 GTS card has 8-layer PCB and comes with 512MB GDDR3 1ns memories so the memory clock of G92 is estimated to be between 900Mhz to 1GHz. Core clock is unknown yet.

Evidentne ATi i NV planuji udelat to, co se mi vubec nelibi. Novy HighEnd, tedy nejaka 8950GX2(?) bude zrejme 2xG92 na jednom PCB a stejne tak i ATi planuji dual-chip kartu. Sice mi sou jasne duvody, ale mrzi me to radne. Osobne sem se tesil na plnohodnotnou jednochipovou G90 s oznacenim 9800GTX a vykonem kolem 1TF :rolleyes:Citace:

VR-Zone learned that G92 reference card is 9-inch long, same length as the GeForce 8800 GTS but it is single slot. The PCB version is P393. The 1ns DDR3 memories are arranged in 16Mx32x8PCS array. The card has outputs like HDTV, HDCP, DVI, but no display port yet. Expect some interesting PCB and cooler designs from the card makers at launch.

G98 supports PCIe 2.0, 64-bit memory bus and will have 256MB of 2.5ns GDDR2 memories. Memory clock is at 800MHz. Performance is expected to be in between G84 and G86 and is meant to compete against ATi RV620, which is 64-bit too.

It should be a faster clocked revised version of the G80 core at 65 nanometre and it should launch in mid November. The G98 is also the real codename and that is the 65 nanometre version of the G86 the 80 nanometre entry level chip. 65 nanometre will help Nvidia to make its production cheaper and the chips cooler. There will be one more G9x chips on 65 nanometre and we believe that G96 is the name. Time will tell.

If this is true this means that there won't be a Geforce 8800GTX / Ultra replacement in this year.
