A: PhysX uses both the CPU and GPU, but generally the most computationally intensive operations are done on the GPU. A CPU upgrade could result in some performance improvement, as would a GPU upgrade, but the relative improvement is very dependent on the initial balance of the system. An optimized PC with the right mix of CPU to GPU horsepower will be the best balanced solution.

GTX 260 drops to €199
Vypada to, ze 48xx uz bude mit silnou konkurenci i ve svem cenovem segmentu. Mame tu zase velmi zdravy trh, i kdyz na Vanoce se da cekat spis i €149As of this morning you can get a reference GTX260 for €199 or a reference GTX280 for €319.

pro vyvojare asi bude lepsi to, co pojede na vsech strojicha i havok bude brzy na GPU, takze co je lepsi : havok, ktery jede VSUDE a na ati kartach lip, nebo physX ktere jede jen na nV kartach?

Vadné čipy Nvidie - je desktop také ohrožen?
tak to je snad jokePodle serveru TheInquirer nejsou vadné jen mobilní čipy a postarší verze G84 a G86. Problémy se prý týkají i nových desktopových čipů G92 a G94! Jsou tedy ohroženy všechny karty GeForce 8800, 9800 a 9600.

vyzdvihujes tady nv do nebe a jak mohli odrvonat intel ale asi ti nedoslo - bud by si je podal intel sam, nebo by to zustalo jak je (a tim ze amd by MUSELO mit cudu (ktera ani neni potrebna pro physX), kterou by si nV zase vzala az by prisle spravny cas) - ani jedno by pro amd nebylo vyhra, tak se radeji spoji s intelem a je za vodou, a jestli vyjde openCL + apple tak si muzou piskat. co by meli z nV? druhe housle na neurcitou dobu....

Tak to tedy rozvedu.
Ptal ses, proc by AMD melo podporovat PhysX. Ja jsem ti vypsal par hlavnich duvodu.
A ty pak prijdes s tim, ze PhysX nebezi na vsem...
Samozrejme, ze by bezelo, kdyby ho zacalo AMD podporovat. A o tom se tu prece bavime.
V tomto pripade maji AMD i NVIDIA 100% herniho trhu podporujicicho PhysX a Intel s prichozim GPU by ostrouhal, protoze hry psane pro PhysX by sis na jejich reseni nepustil. Tohle by bylo vyhodne pro obe spolecnosti.

ano to by bylo, kdyby to toho nV netahala cudu. nemohla prece cekat ze to amd prijme... takze amd ma havok, ktery se v pozadi s intelem rozhodne neztrati, proste sazka na jistotu, nez jit do physX+cuda, riskovat tak boj s intelem a pritom se bat ze strany nV ze si za cudu casem zacne uctovat hory doly - to je jedina verze kde by amd tratilo, tim ze vzali havok (atd.) muzou jen ziskat, resp. nemuzou prohrat

Ja myslel, ze v puvodni hre je pouze HeatRay a Lighthouse/Tornado jsou specialne pro PhysX. Je tomu jinak?

ze do toho skacu vcera jsem stahnul ten 500MB soubor UT3_PhysXModPack.msi a i po instalaci a zaskrtnuti volby HW akcelerace ve hre stale nic nepozoruji..... co delam spatne? na videu jsem videal prave HeatRay ale mne jede "normalne" bez deste a tech dalsich efektu

Predpokladam, ze ovladace a dalsi veci nainstalovane mas. Ve vyberu by mela byt ta mapa 2x, jednou normalni verze a druha PhysX.
Sam jsem to jeste v UT3 nezkousel, protoze hra samotna me nejak nezaujala, ale hadam, ze to tak bude.

Uz jsem na to prisel je to zrejme tou CZ verzi kterou mam ... mapy tam jsou ale ve vyberu nemaji popis a jsou uplne dole ... musim oznacit prazdnej radek a pak to jede... ale popravde u me je to nehratelne... cim vice veci se ve hre znici tim vice mi klesa fps.... takze ze zacatku eto jeste jde ale pak je to nehratelnejen trosku si zastouram a to ze muzu se prostrelit zdi... ale jen na urcitych mistech a zed se mi pokazde rozbije na urcitem miste s danou velikosti.... takze zde nevidim nic zajimaveho... ostatni OK je to urcite krok dale... ale zatim me to ... zatim.... nedonuti si kupovat dalsi kartu navic....

To je zpusobene tim, ze cim vic je scena narocnejsi pro GPU, tim mene zbyva prostoru pro akceleraci fyziky. Zalezi taky dost na hre, jeji narocnosti a implementaci. Nekde je ten dopad na FPS v mezich normy, ale zrovna u UT3 to pada dost dolu.
Uz by konecne nekdo mohl otestovat, jak se chovaji 8800GT/GTS/9800/GTX 2x0 s 8600 nebo i nizsi na fyziku. To je to, co me a hodne dalsich lidi ted zajima.
